VII 101 Peregrinos - Ponferrada (2016)

Para tomar parte en esta prueba nos hemos desplazado al Bierzo para recorrer los primeros kilómetros del Camino Santiago de Invierno que parte de Ponferrada.

For taking part in this race we have moved to Bierzo to run the first kilometers of the Winter Saint James Path which starts in Ponferrada.



El logotipo del club que organiza la prueba ya nos indica que el reto al que nos íbamos a enfrentar no sería fácil.



The logo of the club which leads this race indicates us that we were going to have to fight hard to achieve the finishing line.





Nada más llegar a Ponferrada, nos acercamos a la carnicería junto al Hotel Madrid Bierzo para comprar algunos productos típicos de la zona.

The first stop that we did just after arriving at the Madrid Bierzo Hotel was, to purchase some typical local products.

Para comer nos decidimos por la Taberna Gundín. Típico bar de Ponferrada perfecto para probar los distintos manjares de la zona. A destacar las mollejas de ternera, las orejas y la morcilla frita.

For eating we chose the Gundín bar. Typical bar where we could taste different delicacies and traditional dishes.



Aquí quedamos con varios amigos andaluces. Ana quedaría segunda de las féminas.

We met with a friend andalusians. Ana would be the second in the race.

Después de una buena siesta fuimos a recoger los dorsales al polideportivo. Allí nos encontramos con Sol, una campeona que sería la tercera en su categoría y después asistimos a la famosa cena de la pasta.  

After a really good siesta, we went to the sports centre to pick our bib numbers. There we met Sol who would be the third in her category and to finish, we took a seat to participate in the famous pasta party.

Ya en el hotel llego la hora de preparar todo el material para la carrera.

Later in the hotel, the time to prepare all our equipments had come.


Temprano tomamos un buen desayuno y nos dirigimos al campo de futbol.

In the early hours we had breakfast to get strength and drove to the soccer field.

El ambiente en el campo de fútbol es alucinante. Los corredores estamos impacientes por empezar. El día esta soleado, un poco frío, Así que todo es perfecto.

The vibe in the soccer field is speechless. The day is sunny, and a bit chilly. So, The conditions for running are perfect.

 

El toro nos saluda y nos da suerte. 

The bull look at us and wish us luck.

Pronto salimos de Ponferrada. La concha nos indica que estamos en el camino de Santiago.

Soon we leave behind Ponferrada. The shell marks the St James Path.

Los pueblos nos reciben con alegría. Estos son los gestos que te hacen volver otro año.

The village people cheer us. These actions provoke that people come back.

Los paisajes son alucinantes. El tamaño de algunos castaños son impresionantes.

The landscapes are amazing. Some trees are really great.

A pesar de los kilómetros, siempre con una sonrisa en la cara y disfrutando como enanos. Ya llegará la hora en la que maldigamos.

We have already run a few kilometers. The smile is in our faces still. Later, it will vanish.

Otro pueblo, otro avituallamiento y otro gran recibimiento.

Another village, another aid poit and another great reception.

El sol golpea fuerte. Para nosotros no es problema, si embargo para las personas del norte la temperatura es muy alta.

The sun hits our bodys. The temperature is perfect for us, however, the natives say that the temperature is too high.

Las Medulas. Antigua mina romana de la cual se sacaba oro.

The Medulas, an old roman mine used to get gold.

Este castaño es impresionante.

This chestnut is awesome.

En el polideportivo de Puente Domingo Fernandez nos cambiamos de ropa, nos tomamos una cerveza fresquita y comemos un buen plato de pasta.

The sports centre of Puente de Domingo Fernandez. Here, we change our clothes, we have beer and eat a dish of pasta.

Ahora empieza la parte más dura de la carrera. Una larga subida de casi 30 kilómetros.

Now, the hardest part of the race starts. A very long steep which lasts almost 30 kilometers.

Este dibujo nos alegra por un momento.

This drawing receives us when we arrive to another village.

Subiendo al Alto de la Braña, nos topamos con Nardi, uno de los fundadores de la prueba. Él y otro compañero de la organización a bordo de los quads están chequeando como vamos los participantes. 

Going up to the Alto de la Braña, we bump into Nardí, one of the founders of this race. They drive on quad to watch the runners.

En el Alto de la Braña el ejercito ha montado un pequeño campamento donde nos dan de comer. La noche ya ha llegado así que nos abrigamos.

On the Alto de la Braña, the army has set up a little military camp where we can eat. In the shelter, we put on warmer clothes.

Con los últimos rayos de sol abandonamos el campamento y reemprendemos la marcha. Durante la noche entera los 4x4 de la organización patrullan cuidando de los corredores.

With the last rays of the sun, we leave the camp and we get back on the path. During the whole night, the organisation's cars are on the path to take care of the runners.



La noche ha llegado, y con ella el frío.

The night has come, this means that the temperature goes down quickly.

En algunos aldeas han encendido algunas hogueras 

In some villages, some bonfires has lighted.

Con el amancer llegamos a la última aldea antes de Ponferrada.

With the dawn, we arrive at the last village before Ponferrada.

La última cuesta. Detrás de la luz está Ponferrada.

The last slope. Ponferrada is behind the light.

Cruzando el rio Sil, ya estamos en Ponferrada. Solo nos quedan tres kilómetros por la rivera del Sil para alcanzar la ansiada meta.

Crossing the Sil River, Already we are in Ponferrada. After three kilometers along the  riverside we will arrive at the desired finishing line.

Por fin, después de 104 kilómetros y 24 horas y 5 minutos hemos terminado.

At last, after 104 kilometers and 24 hours and 5 minutes, the race is over.

Y Ana, segunda en la General.

And Ana, second in the general.

Para cenar nos dimos un gran homenaje. Un surtido de queso asturianos. 

For have dinner, a range of Asturian cheeses.

Y después un Cachopo.

And later, a Cachopo.

Para finalizar, brindamos con un licorcito. Por supuesto luciendo con orgullo nuestro polo finisher.

To finish, we cheered with a special liquor. Of course we put our finisher t-shirt on.

Resumiendo, ha sido una prueba muy bonita. Donde los pueblos se han volcado animando a los corredores, el despliegue del ejercito ha sido ejemplar, los paisajes alucinantes, la organización impecable, siempre con algunas cositas que mejorar. Así que, no lo dudéis y venir a correr los 101 Peregrinos.

To sum up, It has been an amazing race. The natives of the villages were always cheering, the different military camps has been really fantastic. the landscapes awesome, the work of the organisation perfect. So, do not doubt and come to run the 101 Pilgrims.
